Students in grades five and six at Trenton Middle School headed to their polling station at their school library today!

Eligible students received their voter registration cards last week. Students voted for their favourite fiction and non-fiction selections from the 2016-17 nominated titles. In addition to having the opportunity to read some exceptional works by Canadian authors, students also had the chance to learn more about the voting process. Students marked their ballots behind a voting screen and dropped their ballots into an Elections Canada ballot box. Their ballots will be counted, along with those from students throughout Atlantic Canada, to determine the winning book. The Hackmatack Children's Choice Book Award will be announced in Halifax on May 5, 2017.

"The Hackmatack Children's Choice Book Award is a literary program designed for young readers in Atlantic Canada. Each year, thousands of children aged nine to twelve (grades four to six) read from the selection of outstanding Canadian books and vote for the winners."
