At the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education we believe that parents and guardians have an incredible impact on their child’s learning and play an essential role in helping their child to succeed at school. Research shows that when parents are involved students have:
- Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates
- More homework completed
- Better school attendance
- Increased motivation, better self-esteem
- Lower rates of suspension
- More positive attitudes and behavior
- Increased enrollment in post-secondary education
There are many opportunities to become involved with your child's school, including Home and School Associations, School Advisory Councils, coaching, chaperoning events, etc. But being involved goes beyond volunteering.
Helping your child with his/her homework, making time to talk about their day and what is coming up all contribute to a child's sense of well-being and success. You are your child's first and most influential teacher, therefore, the best success will be realized when in-school learning is supported at home. It is important to remember that success looks different for all children, but to achieve success it takes the involvement and interest of parents and guardians.
