Family of Schools
The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board serves four areas in Central and Northern Nova Scotia, called "families" of schools: Celtic, Chignecto, Cobequid and Nova.
The Celtic Family of Schools is made up of 20 schools in Pictou County: 10 elementary schools, two elementary/middle schools, three middle/junior high schools, three high schools and one consolidated Grade Primary- Grade 12 school. Pictou County is known for its rich Scottish Heritage, in fact, the Town of Pictou is known as the birthplace of New Scotland (aka Nova Scotia).
The Chignecto Family of Schools includes 19 schools in Cumberland County: 11 elementary schools, one junior high school, four high schools and two consolidated Grade Primary - Grade 12 schools. Cumberland County is known for being rich in natural resources such as wild blueberries, coal and rock salt.
The Cobequid Family of Schools is made up of 19 schools in the northern, western and eastern parts of Colchester County: 12 elementary schools, five middle/junior high schools and two high schools. The centre of the Cobequid Family is the Town of Truro, known as the Hub of Nova Scotia.
The Nova Family of Schools includes 17 schools in the southern part of Colchester County and the Municipality of East Hants: 12 elementary schools, one middle school, one consolidated Grade Primary - Grade 9 school and three high schools. East Hants is one of the fastest growing areas in Nova Scotia.
