Thorburn Consolidated receives $15k Tech Lab Grant!
Students and staff at Thorburn Consolidated School welcomed Matt Walsh, general manager of the Future Shop Store in New Glasgow, this morning to a very special ceremony. On behalf of Future Shop, Matt presented Thorburn principal, Stephen Barker; teacher, Mary Webber-Cook, and students with a $15,000 cheque!
Thorburn Consolidated School is one of only 13 elementary schools – from 280 applicants – across Canada to have been selected for a Future Shop Tech Lab Grant. The purpose of the Grant is to support schools with upgraded technology to allow them to better meet the needs of their students and foster innovation.
Providing access to technology in the classroom is a priority for two reasons at Thorburn Consolidated School. First, the teachers are passionate about offering students their school with the same opportunities they would get in an urban center. Second, access to devices like tablets and headphones, allow students with learning disabilities the opportunities to find the same success in the classroom as their peers. Both of these priorities will be addressed with their Tech Lab grant as they will purchase tablets and other devices to put up-to-date technology in the hands of all their students.
Congratulations Thorburn Consolidated!!
