Mi'kmaq History Month - Celebrating history, culture & heritage
On October 12th, Charleigh Marshall, a Grade 11 student from CEC, spoke to CCRSB's governing board members about the importance of Mi'kmaq History Month. Charleigh shared her pride for her culture and her hope for a future that more actively incorporates Mi'kmaq learning, history and culture into the daily life of all Nova Scotians, but especially students. She was also responsible for organizing a special presentation at CEC for her fellow students on Friday.
Schools across CCRSB are taking this month to expand students' knowledge and understanding of the Mi'kmaq people in Nova Scotia. Though learning happens throughout the year, each October provides a time to focus more in-depth of the immense contributions of the Mi'kmaq people to all aspects of life in Nova Scotia.
