The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board congratulates Colin Brownell, a CCRSB school bus driver for Cyrus Eaton Elementary and Pugwash District High, and Kevin Mapplebeck, the principal for West Highlands Elementary, on their recent awards.
Colin Brownell was awarded the Nova Scotia Medal of Bravery by Premier Darrell Dexter on November 17 at Province House in Halifax. Brownell was presented with a medallion, a lapel pin and a citation for his heroic measures when he helped Calvin Latta escape from his burning vehicle on May 8, 2009.
The Nova Scotia Medal of Bravery honours Nova Scotians who have risked their own lives or safety and shown tremendous selflessness and courage to save another person’s life. Photos and a video of the presentation ceremony are available at www.gov.ns.ca/bravery/.
Kevin Mapplebeck was awarded the YMCA Peace Medallion by the YMCA of Cumberland on November 17 in Amherst. Mapplebeck was recognized for his leadership and initiative in supporting West Highlands Elementary students through Restorative Practice as part of the Schools Plus framework.
The YMCA Peace Medallion recognizes the achievements of individuals and groups who, without any special resource, demonstrate in their lives and activities the values expressed in the World Alliance of YMCAs’ Statement of Peace.
