Career Exploration Program: Retail Services
Retail Sales 11 provides students with responsibility for the operation of an in-house small business, handling and managing cash flow, inventory, direct sales to students and other customers, management and security, and "store" policies and procedures.
Retail Merchandizing 11 provides students with skills and knowledge necessary to participate in the retail merchandizing industry. Students will be responsible for the operation of an in-house small business, in particular the aspects of managing stock, display, advertising, security, business technology, shipping and receiving, profit and costing. Both courses are often taught together.
Students will develop a variety of skills and basic knowledge needed to explore careers in the Retail Services Industry and related sectors while earning credits toward their high school graduation diploma. These courses are designed to meet the needs of a great range of learners, including those who may proceed to post-secondary education in this and other fields as well as those who will be seeking direct entry into the work force following high school graduation.
Retail Services courses are offered at Amherst Regional High School, Cobequid Educational Centre, North Nova Education Centre and Northumberland Regional High School.
