Career Exploration Program: Forestry

Through the Forestry Program, Grade 11 and 12 students develop a variety of skills and basic knowledge needed to explore careers in the Forestry Industry and related sectors while earning credits toward their high school graduation diploma.

Forestry Management 11 provides a wide range of experiences and learning opportunities related to silviculture and forest management. Forestry Technology 11 provides a wide range of experiences and learning opportunities related to technology and problem solving applied in forest management. As part of the course, students will participate in a small enterprise that carries out landscape and forest management contracts.

Forestry Management 12 provides a wide range of experiences and learning opportunities related to siviculture and forest management. Students will lead a small enterprise that carries out landscape and forest management contracts. Forestry Technology 12 focuses on retail merchandizing, allowing students to gain supervisory and leadership experience. Students will also be responsible for the operation of a small business. Forestry Management 12 and Forestry Technology 12 are designed to be taught in tandem with one another.

These courses are designed to meet the needs of a great range of learners, including those who may proceed to post-secondary education in this and other fields as well as those who will be seeking direct entry into the work force following high school graduation.

Forestry courses are currently offered at Northumberland Regional High School.
